A Tale of Two Retrievers

A TALE OF TWO RETRIEVERS- one, a labrador retriever named Jake and the other, a Golden Retriever named Bruce. Both were found in deplorable conditions in Quezon City - neglected and in dire need of medical care.

Both dogs ended up at PAWS but met different fates: Jake recovered from malnutrition and bounced right back after PAWS shelter veterinarian, Dr Wilford Almoro operated on him to remove the tumors on his neck.

Bruce's organs, on the other hand, had deteriorated in such an advanced state that he could not be saved.

On the day that Jake was adopted by Therese and Armand Martinez (November 11, 2010), Bruce passed away. Bruce was loved by volunteers who kept watch beside him and helped feed him and care for him til the very end.

*Attached photo- Jake's BEFORE and AFTER (adoption) photo. He is shown with adoptive parents, Therese and Armand Martinez. The last photo is Bruce's photo on his last day. The girl in the photo is PAWS volunteer Cris De los Reyes who helped keep him company in the last few days of his short life.

PAWS hopes that tragedies like Bruce's will be avoided by telling his story. We hope more people would think before buying or getting a pet.

Pet owners should make financial provisions in the event that their dogs will get sick.

Abandoning them should never be an option to the responsible pet owner.
